The projected video component of the collaborative multimedia performance 'emerging futures' created by Jeremy Mayall for a University of Waikato 60th Anniversary event, performed in September 2024 at The Pā, University of Waikato, Kirikiriroa/Hamilton, Aotearoa/New Zealand.
The video, shot at Clarence St Theatre and featuring dancer Lauren Mann, was created for three screens including the large bespoke 16:3 aspect ratio video screen in Te Āhurutanga at The Pā.

Lens setup

'emerging futures' was photographed with a unique lens setup. A 2x anamorphic 16mm projector lens was coupled with a vintage still photography lens on a full-frame sized sensor. The desqueezed 32:9 ratio image was then cropped to fit the 16:3 screen.
The taking lens used was an unknown 135mm f2.8 lens, and the anamorphiser was a Bell & Howell BH16-2 2x anamorphic 16mm projector lens. The variable dioptre focusing lens of the anamorphiser was modified to achieve infinity focus and reduce the number of turns required to adjust focus.
A similar lens setup was used to photograph the film Refraction.
